Adding 'e.g.' inside reference ( )

I'm aware that I can manually enter 'e.g.' inside a reference to create, for instance, (e.g. Smith 2005). However, if I need to refresh Zotero, these are lost. Is there any way of fixing the 'e.g.' inside the brackets to prevent them being lost with a refresh?

Click the add/edit citation button, then click the blue bubble for the item in the Edit Citation window. Type “e.g.,” in the Prefix field.

Thank you. That's such a simple thing but I hadn't realised that zotero could do this.
