zotero connector slow on both chrome and firefox, error on arxiv

Since a few months ago zotero connector has been very slow when saving items, taking 10-20 seconds at a time. I'm also getting errors when triggering it in arxiv that says "errod when saving metadata" and the proceeds to save 2 copies of the same item in my zotero library.

Help is appreciated.

    Could you produce a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector?

    1. Open the Zotero Connector preferences
    2. In the Advanced tab of the Zotero Connector preferences, check the box next to “Enable Logging.” Do not close this tab.
    3. In a new tab navigate to a page that takes a long time to save, wait for it to load, click the Zotero button to save and wait for the save to finish.
    4. Go back to the Advanced tab of the Zotero Connector preferences, uncheck "Enable Logging" and click Submit to Zotero Server.
    5. You will be provided with a Debug ID (e.g., “D12345678”). Please post the Debug ID in this thread.

    @fqiang A Debug ID as described above would be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

    @bwiernik The error is not occur every time, so when it occur next time I will record it and send to you.

    I recorded a trace, but this time zotero didn't work at all; there was no popup at the lower right corner.

    You should try disabling all extensions and seeing if that fixes Zotero. If it does, you can then enable extensions one by one, to see which extension interferes with Zotero

    I disabled everything and the connector still doesn't work.

    Could you test the extension in a new chrome profile? The arxiv link you are trying to save works fine for me.

    So it works now, on both the new profile and the old profile. It honestly seems to me like a server issue on Zotero's side, because I saw the error logs earlier and there was a lot of "server unreachable" errors (don't remember the exact wordings). Hopefully this issue is gone for good.

    the Zotero server isn't involved in saving from arXiv, so that was definitely not the problem.

    I see. So what sites does the connector contact when I try to save a paper?

    Aside from whatever website you're saving from, assuming you have Zotero open, it connects from your browser to Zotero. Other extensions, security software, or proxy settings can interfere with that.
