ReConEvent 2018

We are writing to ask if Zotero would be interested in supporting our 6th Annual ReConEvent Conference in Edinburgh on 29th June 2018. The conference has gone from strength to strength over the past five years and we have been fortunate to count the likes of GitHub, Mendeley, Digital Science, JISC, CrossRef, The Scientific Editing Company and Creative Scotland as sponsors in previous years.

About the conference

ReConEvent is designed for researchers and themes for our previous events have included data visualisation, open access and managing research data and analytics (please see our past events at https://reconevent.com/previous-events/), in addition to hackdays and this year, workshops. This year's conference theme will be "Research & copyright: What do you know, what do you need to know and what can you make open?" and we have already secured several excellent speakers who we think will inspire and inform the next generation of researchers.

There is always plenty of opportunity for networking and we always hold the conference on a Friday so that delegates can choose to stay over the weekend to explore and enjoy the city of Edinburgh. We are keen to attract sponsors for the 2018 conference who can also inform and assist our network of delegates/young researchers, especially in areas such as publishing your first paper, new online research tools and careers.

Who are the delegates?

The majority of our delegates (85%) are PhD students and early career researchers and we attract over 100 attendees to the conference each year. The talks are also filmed and posted on our YouTube channel after the conference (they have several thousand views, see our YouTube channel) so that students and ECRs from around the world can view them too. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDlGZ6jbr03txJBS2Nm38kA/videos

What do our delegates think of the ReConEvent conference?

The response to the conference is always very positive, with some delegates pointing out that it was the best conference they have attended (please see sponsorship pack for more testimonials). We are also delighted when delegates write about the conference in their blogs; please see this blog post from July 2017 by Emily Armstrong on the University of Glasgow's Postgraduate community blog:
ReCon: Insights into 21st Century Publishing & Communication https://uofgpgrblog.com/recon-insights-into-21st-century-publishing-communication/

Who manages the conference?

The conference is organised and managed by Dr Joanna Young, Director of the Scientific Editing Company; Graham Steel (publishing consultant) and Dr Jan Wessnitzer of Machines with Vision.

For more information about the conference please read our sponsorship document https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mnb6ePUQFYf-PAK_YHZcOEd6NO2VRA9z/view?usp=sharing and take a look at our website (https://reconevent.com/). We would be delighted if you would like to sponsor our event and please do get in touch if you have any questions or if you would like any more information.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best wishes,
Joanna, Graham and Jan
