Citing preprints for NIH reports

The NIH doesn't have a strict style for how citations are listed but rather a list of requirements. For preprints they want "the Digital Object Identifier and the Object type (e.g. preprint, protocol) in the citation" and give an example of "Bar DZ, Atkatsh K, Tavarez U, Erdos MR, Gruenbaum Y, Collins FS. Biotinylation by antibody recognition- A novel method for proximity labeling. BioRxiv 069187 [Preprint]. August 11, 2016 [cited 2017 Jan 12]. Available from: https://doi.org/10.1101/069187." (full recs at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-17-050.html)

Is there a citation style that will insert a [Preprint] label into a citation? One problem is that there is no "preprint" Item Type. The BioRxiv translator downloads references as a Journal Article. Even if I manually add "preprint" to the extra field, is there a style that could use that information?
