IEEE Xplore & ACM Digital Library retrieval issues

edited February 11, 2018
Hi,
There are some issues I'm facing in IEEE Xplore and ACM Digital Library and I think they relate to Zotero connector.

First in IEEE Xplore the place of the conference isn't retrieved although it's there. Also the publisher field is empty most of the time. One more thing is that the first name of authors isn't retrieved completely and it just gets the initial character of the names.

In ACM Digital Library things are better but the place of conference is always "New York, NY, USA" which is wrong and the right place is just mentioned on top of this near the data of the conference on each article page.

Thanks

I'm using Zotero standalone 5.0.34.5 and Zotero connector for firefox 5.0.35

Oh, I think I was wrong about the place field and it refers to the place of the publisher and not the place of the conference, so it's filling correctly right now.
  • Not sure I understand what the remaining issues are, but we'd definitely need sample URLs for them.
  • Sorry for my bad explanation, consider these URLs from IEEE Xplore:
    http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6227210/
    http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6693093/

They both have author's full names but when I store them in Zotero, it only keeps their last name and first name's initial character. For example one of the author's names is "Jian Zhou " but in it only keeps "J. Zhou" or "David Lo" turns into "D. Lo".

Also the Publisher field remains empty and Zotero doesn't fill it up with "IEEE".
  • Ah OK -- we use the data that IEEE has under "Download Citation" and that just has the initials, not the full first name. I'm not sure we'll try to scrape first names from the page; there's just too much that can go wrong with that.

For the publisher -- again, that's not in the citation data they provide for download. If all conferences listed on IEEExplore are published by IEEE we could add that, but is that the case?

For both issues you could ask IEEE and request that they add them to the RIS and BibTeX under Download Citation.
  • I understand now, thanks.

And for the publishing thing, no, unfortunately that's not the case:
    http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/1029621/
  • Too bad -- we might be able to fix this, but it'd be much better (as in: more stable) if the fix comes from IEEE.
