Incorrect number sequence

Zotero plugs in incorrect number sequence for the citation. I am using word, with Mac computer. I only have a total of 20 references but it listed eg, # 107, 1512 etc like you see below

"...thrombotic events compared to warfarin or LMWH.6-107-119-1311-1512-1612-1611-159-137-11"

Please advise. Thanks!

What style? Does it the same in the new empty document?

Try it please in a new empty document. AMA style works correctly for me.

Ok. What do you suggest i do with the previous work? I have over 3 pages

3 pages are not so much. You could try to find the problematic citation (https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#debugging_broken_documents) or you can unlink all citations and insert them again.

Okay, let's take a step back.

I'm not exactly sure you are saying. You are saying that you only have 20 references in the document, but you are getting reference numbers in the 1000s? Can you please cut and paste a specific example of a sentence with a citation to only 1 item at the end of it?
