Error in syncing from group library. File cannot be created

REPORT ID: 1083301839

When I try to sync I keep getting this error

The file 'C:\Users\Sonia\Zotero\storage\EIRTDSBR\prn.js' cannot be created.

Check that the file is not currently in use, that its permissions allow write access, and that it has a valid filename.

Restarting your computer or disabling security software may also help.

I have restarted my computer and re-downloaded zotero multiple times and made sure my data directory is the default.

Some of the files are synced but most of the ones I cannot view seem to be files that my colleague added to our group library. They have a clear blue circle next to the file name and when I try to open them I get this message.

The attached file could not be found.

It may have been moved or deleted outside of Zotero, or, if the file was added on another computer, it may not yet have been synced to zotero.org

I am using zotero 5.0.34.5

Any ideas on what's going on?
  • Also, the files that cannot be located show up in the group library in zotero.org
  • The error message pretty much covers the possible causes of this. Something on your computer is preventing Zotero from writing files to the Zotero data directory. All files in the data directory have to be writable by you and can't have the read-only attribute set (which can happen somewhat mysteriously).

While there's a good chance this will affect more than one file, you can start by searching for the file referenced above. Does that file exist? If you right-click on it and choose Properties, is the Read-Only attribute checked?

I located the file and it was in fact checked as read only. I made sure that the read only attribute was not checked and restarted my computer and zotero and received another error.

    Error ID: 1258599455

However, this time I got no error message.
