Report ID: 1306725157: Unable to download PDF

I received the following error report from Zotero when trying to download from a .edu site
[JavaScript Error: "Method saveSnapshot failed
global code@safari-extension://org.zotero.zoteroconnectorforsafari-8LAYR367YV/50f9198d/connector.js:297:58"]

I have updated Zotero but I am unable to download PDFs.

Another issue I am struggling with is moving already existing PDFs saved onto my laptop to the Zotero library, I am unable to Import files.

Kindly assist
  • We'd need to see the actual URL if possible.

For getting files from your laptop to Zotero, you'd use drag&drop or "Store Copy of File" under the green + sign. Does that not work?
  • Below is the URL
    https://canvas.wisc.edu/courses/91785/files/3371087?module_item_id=877241

The latter suggestion worked perfectly, thank you.
  • Right, I can't access UW's Canvas, of course, so hard to say. Does importing this PDF work from the browser? http://unec.edu.az/application/uploads/2014/12/pdf-sample.pdf
If so, it's likely something particular to how Canvas serves PDFs and we may not be able to fix it (you can obviously download the PDF and drag it to Zotero, though).
  • Yes I understand, you would have to login and that is not possible for you. No, what shows up is a page download icon from Zotero and not a PDF download icon. When I do click on it and error appears.

I have downloaded all the PDFs onto my laptop and will drag them to Zotero as suggested. I had just hoped to send the PDFs directly to Zotero in future.

Thank you for your kind assistance.
  • So just to confirm, downloading the PDF I link to above also doesn't work? Because that definitely should.
  • When I am on Canvas and I view the PDF, Zotero does not show a PDF download icon, so no downloading the PDF does not work. I have to open it on Adobe and then save it to my laptop.
  • I understand this about Canvas. I'm asking whether it works for other PDFs, like the one I'm linking to above.
  • What I get is a Zotero icon that reads "Save to Zotero (web page with snapshot)"
  • The Safari Connector currently shows "Web Page with Snapshot" in the tooltip when viewing a PDF (unlike in Chrome and Firefox, where it's identified properly), but you should still be able to save the PDF to Zotero. Can you provide a Debug ID from Zotero for the save attempt from Safari?
  • The Debug ID is D920392759.
  • That's from the Connector — we need a Debug ID from Zotero.
  • (Though that also appears to be for saving a webpage, not saving a PDF directly.)
