why running out of Zotero Storage when using Webdav?

Zotero stopped uploading to my webdav server. I found out, that my library requires 302.6 MB on Zotero Storage. Does this stop Zotero to upload to my webdav server? But what takes so much storage? Is it the metadata? Can I see somehow the files on Zotero Storage? Is it possible to delete some files there to free up späce? I thought I would not need Zotero Storage when using my own webdav server?

Many thanks,
Oliver
  • webDAV and Zotero file storage are alternatives, so generally you don't need one when you use the other and running out of storage on one shouldn't affect the other. The only exception are groups, which you can't sync with webDAV.

Are you positive you were actually syncing with webDAV? i.e. do you see the synced files on your webDAV?
  • Adamsmith, many thanks for your quick answer.

That is excactly my problem! Zotero seems to ignore my settings, although I have verified the webdav-server. There are no synced files on my webdav.
Zotero starts syncing with zotero.org and then stops. Probably because it exceeds the quota. Can I somehow force Zotero to use webdav? Clicking "Sync attachment files ... using WEBDAV" does not seem to work.
  • And these are files under "My Library", right? As per above, this won't work for a group.

And when you say "does not seem to work" -- do you mean setting the preference doesn't stick?
  • Yes, it's my library.
No, the preference settings are as I would like them to be - and they do not change after reopening and rebooting. But as I said, Zotero does ignore them!?!
  • Could you take a screenshot of the sync preferences, black out everything you don't want people to see, post it on a free image hosting site (imgur.com, dropbox) and link to it here?
  • Here you are:

Zotero confirms "file sync is successfully set up".
  • Could you post a debug ID from Zotero for a manually triggered sync (i.e. enable debug, then click on the green round sync error, then disable)?

  • Here is my debug ID:
    D1956883885
  • @dstillman will need to look at this
  • @odolny: From the looks of it, all your files were simply already uploaded, so there's nothing new to upload. If you're not seeing them on your WebDAV server, use Reset File Sync History from the Sync -> Reset pane of the Zotero preferences to force it to recheck the server. (Switching between Zotero File Storage and WebDAV should reset file sync history automatically, but it's possible that didn't happen for you for some reason.)

You can then use Purge Storage on https://www.zotero.org/settings/storage to clear the files from your zotero.org account.
