17 pages of ANON

HI,

whenever I read a book, article etc. I just clicked on the Icon so that all references can be stored. Now that I am trying to create my biography, I noticed that the first 17 pages starts with ANON. I guess many sources (probably pdfs) were not tranfered into Zotero correctly. I am wondering what might be the best solution to include all these references correctly, without having to enter each of them manually.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Many thanks

Zotero creates bibliography outputs from metadata about each article/books/etc. The PDF files are not sufficient for creating a bibliography. You have to create "parent item" for each PDF in your collection and fill in the metadata. See Documentation for more info.
You can try to retrieve metadata from PDF - https://www.zotero.org/support/retrieve_pdf_metadata
  • In the future, you generally want to import items using the Zotero Save Button in your browser:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library

You always want to work with proper Zotero items, not just the raw PDF attachments in Zotero, as that enables most of the program’s features.
  • Thank you both for responding. I always clicked on the save button whenever I read something but then realised that pdf pages I was reading were not stored correctly.

I tried to retrieve metadata from PDF. It worked with some but Zotero could not retrieve about 140 files. I assume that I need to enter it manually then?

When I also comperate the number of references, the Zotero Web shows me a higher number of files than Zotero App. Is that normal?
  • I assume that I need to enter it manually then?
If you are able to go to the web page with metadata of these articles then it is the easiest way to import metadata from the web page and the pdf file in Zotero connect (drag and drop) to the record of this imported item.
