Another 'missing data' issue after Windows crash

My Win 8 OS crashed and zotero was uninstalled (Zotero Standalone 4.0.28.7) along with other applications. I dont think I have backed up the data anywhere other than a dated excel spread sheet. I have looked for the 'zotero.sqlite' file on my PC after installing the latest version of zotero but cannot find my references/ data. Is there any other way of recovering my lost data? During the windows crash and uninstall, did my data get removed as well? Pls help. Dissertation deadline looming....

    Others may be able to give you step-by-step instructions concerning how to definitively search your drive for Zotero files but from your story it doesn't sound promising. If you have a backup of your thesis with Zotero citation fields intact you _may_ be able to recover _some_ of your Zotero library.

    Please consider buying an external hard drive and use it to automatically back up your system.
