Paragraphs in Zotero: para. (singular) and paras (plural) - Why paras without full stop?

Paragraphs are given out as "para." in references. In case of multiple paragraphs the term "paras" is used. Why is the full stop at the end of the abbreviation left out for the plural version? Shouldn't it be "paras." instead?

I am using the official APA 6th edition style sheet and the latest version of Zotero.
  • if you want "paras." use American English (en-US) as the language setting for the style (under Set Document Preferences) -- which is probably the right choice if you just want standard APA anyway.

"paras" is more common (and prescribed by most style guides) in British English because you're not actually truncating the word after the s, so CSL/Zotero uses it as the default when selecting British English (en-GB).
  • Many thanks for your helpful explanation!
