bwiernikNo, Zotero is not able to modify the contents of URL field when including it in references (e.g., for MLA style), sorry.
-
JGebauerAnd I assume the style cannot do this either?
-
bwiernikYes, CSL styles cannot modify the contents of fields. In a general sense, it is a much better idea to retain http:// or https:// when printing a URL to help readers and computers recognize it as a link and to distinguish it from URLs with other protocols (e.g., ftp://). MLA’s standard here is outdated and not particularly good advice.
-
JGebauerI'll try to communicate this to the publisher...

bwiernikedited December 13, 2017Another option if they insist is that when you are finally done editing your paper and after you click the Unlink Citations button in Word/LibreOffice (save a backup copy first in case you later make changes), use Find and Replace in Word/LibreOffice to find all instances of "http://" and "https://" and delete them.

adamsmith(I think for print documents removing the http(s) and only listing other protocols like ftp: makes sense stylistically. For anything published electronically I think it's a bad idea. The search&replace at the end makes most sense to me, too, given how simple this is)
