Delete Automatic Tags Deactivated

Hey everyone, in preferences I turned off automatic tags but they're still being tagged. The delete automatic tags in library button is greyed out (disabled). Does anyone know why? Thanks.

    The button being disabled suggests that the tags are not automatic, but actually manual tags. When you say that they are still being imported, are you importing from a file, such as a RIS file exported from EndNote or a database? If so, those will be stored as manual, not automatic, tags because Zotero has no way of knowing whether to treat them as manual or automatic.
