citations not entering into text

I am trying to enter citations into my word document. When I click on the Zotero icon and then add/edit citation the normal red outlined rectangle appears and I am able to pull up the appropriate citation to enter however when I push my "enter" button the green sash comes across the red rectangle like normal but the entry is not entered into my document and the author names do not vanish from the red triangle. I'm not able to enter any citations into my working document.
Please advise!

    Do you mean that the red window doesn't disappear after you press Enter on the keyboard?

    Could you restart Zotero and provide a Debug ID for this?
