ubuntu 16, Open Office and Zotero 5.0

Ciao, I just updated to Ubuntu 16 so everything is current. In Open Office Word I have the zotero toolbar however it is non functional and the buttons are light grey.
I have restarted the computer, firefox, openoffice and deinstalled/reinstalled Zotero in Open Office. Hopefully the solution is something simple and stupid. Grazie

Install LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice. OpenOffice has not been updated in a few years and is no longer officially supported by Zotero.

Oh my error it is Libre Office 5 which came with Ubuntu 16

In the Advanced options in LibreOffice, what JRE (Java Runtime Environment) is listed? Which exact LibreOffice version? We've had a number of reports of non-working Java in LO5.4

The LibreOffice plugin requires LibreOffice 5.2 or later, so you should upgrade that to start.

ok upgrading Libreoffice resulted in the Zotero buttons highlighted but nothing happens when i click on them.
