Upgrade StorageZotero Plugin unresponsive in MS word 2016

Upgraded to Zotero 5, currently running 5.0.27, Windows 7. Tried installing MS word plugin on MS word 2016, and I get the Zotero tab at the top of word, but the "insert citation" button does not appear to do anything.
I've been through the troubleshooting recommendations on the Zotero website. I've tried installing the MS word Add-in through the Zotero Cite preference menu. I've also tried installing it manually. I've removed the firefox plugin that was apparently required to integrate with the previous version of Zotero.
Any other ideas for things to try?
