Cannot extract annotations from PDFs with Zotero 5

I can still attach PDFs to my citation, but the function of pulling annotations out of the PDF into a notes no longer works for me. This all started when I upgraded Firefox, and then Zotero 5. I used to use this function all the time, and have come to rely on it. Any ideas?

That's a function of ZotFile http://zotfile.com/, not Zotero itself, which you'll need to add to Zotero separately.

Now I'm having trouble downloading zotfile. Mozilla blocks it for being "unsigned" and Chrome is downloading it as a PDF. Any thoughts?

Now it says, this version is not compatible with your version of Firefox. Argh.

Read the installation instructions on zotfile.com. You're installing this in Zotero, not in Firefox.

I see zotfile.jar but no xpi file like it says in the instructions

I go to tools-add ons-hit the gear icon dropdown-install add ons from file. I get a folder with several other folders and one file that says zotero.jar, but no zotfile.xpi to be seen

you need to navigate to the folder you downloaded zotfile.xpi to (this is a standard file selection dialog as you'd have for saving, opening, or uploading files in any other context). Then select it.

now i got a message that said, "Install add-ons only from authors you trust." it shows a puzzle piece icon with Zotfile next to it. I click on "Install now" but nothing happens...

it said it will be there when i restart it...

Restart Zotero and Zotfile should be functioning (it requires a restart).
