Unable to update Zotero 5 or uninstall previous version

I attempted to upgrade to Zotero 5.0. The upgrade never completed, nor can I access my previous version. Whenever I click on the Zotero icon (or try to uninstall), it gives me the following message. "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Zotero. Do you want to reboot now?" After the system reboots and I click on the Zotero icon, i receive the same message. Please help!!!
  • And you've tried running the new installer over your current version?

What version of Windows is this? Is this a personal computer or an institutional one with restrictions in place?
  • Yes. I ran the new installer over my current version. This is my personal computer with Windows 10 Pro. I was able to reinstall the older version but I am still unable to install the Version 5.0.
  • Can you uninstall the previous version?
  • Can you say more? What version of Zotero do you see listed in Add/Remove Programs currently, and what happens when you go to uninstall it?
  • But the best thing to try here is probably just to delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero Standalone directory altogether and then install Zotero 5.0.
  • In Add/Remove Programs, it has Zotero (Corporation for Digital Scholarship). I deleted the C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero directory. (For some reason, it was not named Zotero Standalone.) I am trying to install Zotero 5.0 now.
  • (Zotero 5.0 uses "Zotero" instead of "Zotero Standalone", so it apparently got at least partway there.)
  • THANK YOU! That worked!
  • OK, great — sorry for the trouble. Not sure why that was happening for you.
