CITATION ISSUES

Hello.
Sorry I am a new zotero user. I've just downloaded it for the first time. I'm having issues citing papers from my library. Unlike what I'm used to with other reference managers, when I save an article in my library and want to cite it in a word document, it comes just with the file name and the link. Nothing about the actual references such as authors names, journal, volume, year).. nothing,
What can I do please.

  • It looks like you are just citing the PDF attachment items. You want to be citing Zotero parent items that have the full item metadata. See here for how you want to be getting items into your library:

  • Actually I already had my pdf articles in my laptop before installing zotero. So, I dragged and dropped them in zotero interface and the challenge is that they can't be cited as those downloaded straight with zotero
  • Select the PDFs, then right click and choose Retrieve Metadata for PDF. This won’t get as good Metadata as importing them from the browser, but will be a good start.
  • Thanks. It works. I had to install a kind of pdf connector within zotero and it works perfectly

    Thanks
  • Glad it’s working. Again, moving forward you will want to import items using the browser plugin.
