Zotero extension does not show in Chrome, even when I just re-installed the extension

Hello,

I just started using Zotero this week, and I love it. I have been using it as a Chrome extension. I just did some system cleanups, the same as I do every day since I installed Zotero and the Chrome extension disappeared today.

Since then, I have re-installed the Chrome extension, and closed then re-logged in to the Zotero Standalone on my local PC. I also closed and re-opened Chrome a couple of times. The Chrome extension still does not show.

What am I doing wrong here?

Please help.
  • What do you mean when you say it doesn't show? Do you see it in the Chrome Extensions pane?
  • Hi,

Apologies, it's late and I was not specific. I was not seeing the Zotero icon in the main Chrome window in the upper right hand side of the screen to the right side of the URL bar.

I checked, and triple-checked to make sure that the Zotero extension was installed as an extension, and it was. Here is what finally worked for me.

I decided to remove the Zotero extension from Chrome; I uninstalled it completely. Then, I re-selected it from the 'tools' and 'extensions' option in Chrome. After deleting and re-adding the extension, the little icon indicator that the extension is running showed once again in the upper right hand side of the screen, and it changed to indicate that the extension recognizes a reference that can be imported. I was able to create a reference just now.

I hope that I was more clear and specific this time. Just let me know if clarification is needed.

Thank you for your quick reply!
  • The icon might have just been hidden in the overflow menu (the three dots to the right of the other toolbar icons). If an extension's icon ends up there, you can right-click on it and choose "Keep in Toolbar" to keep it visible.
  • Hi again,

Thank you for the tip. I will watch to see if the icon slides off to the right.

    This is a great help
