categorie "creator"; "author"

(In the German Zotero), there is no extended search option for "author". I wonder if this is not just an omission, but some sort of category error.

The medium column has as an option to sort by "creator". (The "author" is missing here, too.) The field "creator", though, is hardly ever used. I just have entries in this field by items importet by Amazon or others. Is it possible, that "creator" is misllinked with the German "Ersteller" and should be linked with "author" (Autor) instead?
  • "Creator" encompasses "Author", "Editor", "Translator", etc.
  • Yes - this is what I should how it should work. But it doesn't. The creator=author is not listed under the heading "Ersteller" in the middle row. And also, when searching vor an author in the field "Ersteller"<=creator) in extended search, no results show up.
    Best,
    Ralf
  • This works as expected for me, though, to clarify what I wrote above, the "Creator" search condition will search all creator types, whereas the middle pane "Creator" column will show the first one, two, or three authors/editors (and other creator types mapped to those) but not, say, translators.

If an author isn't showing up in the middle pane, what is the item type ("book", "journal article", etc.) and the creator type ("author", "editor", etc.), and what differences do you see between items that work (the ones you imported from Amazon) and the ones that don't?
  • Middle column: Sorry for that. You are right! (Just the last name is mentioned, though - this is why I somehow thought that creators weren't importet from "authors".)

Extended search: Works as you say. I just have to choose either "author !contains!" or search for "peter meyer", not "meyer, peter".

    thanks,
    Ralf
