Zotero Connector 5.x problems in Firefox

I'm using Firefox 56.x and I upgraded Zotero to 5.x

It seems as if the workflow has changed. Now it uses the Zotero connector to connect with the desktop application, while previously I used the Firefox plugin exclusively.

What must I do to get a web source into the desktop application? Supposedly the connector is installed, but how do I use it? I cannot see any button. Is there a beginners guide for the new version / worklflow?

    Firefox 56 is currently in Beta and there are no guarantees that the Connector will work properly with it. You should downgrade to the latest version (Firefox 55.x). That said, you should see an icon for Zotero connector that changes to depending on the website you are on and which, once clicked, saves to your Zotero library like the old Firefox extension did.
