Include Item Types for Standards and in particular Internet RFCs

It would be useful to parse and format IETF RFCs better.

Choose any RFC either from the RFC data tracker ( e.g. https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc8200/) or the RFC editor page (e.g., https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc8200).

In particular picking up the document number "RFC 8200" and the DOI.

  • A Standard type is planned. For now, the best fit is Report. Add the DOI to Extra like this:
    DOI: 10.1234/56789
  • Having a standard type would be great! Please let me know when this can be tested.

The other thing I would like to have is a style that used the Report/Standard number as the citation key.

e.g. from the example above, generating a citation such as [RFC8200] with a bibliography such as:

    [RFC8200] Deering, S. and R. Hinden, "Internet Protocol, Version 6 (IPv6) Specification", STD 86, RFC 8200, DOI 10.17487/RFC8200, July 2017, .

Do you know of a style that uses report/standard numbers as citation keys?

    thanks

  • I would be more than happy to contribute to this - it would be be very helpful for my Zotero use. Especially if it would capture properly with the firefox plugin.
  • It has been 2+ years since the reply that a "standard type is planned".

Where do we stand on that?

    thanks

  • A standard item type is included in CSL 1.0.2 which is currently under review for release.
  • Would also be nice if it could translate rfcXXXX to the DOI for the magic add tool.
