Upgrade StorageHeavy iowait load causing system to slow down when zotero is idle

First of all, thanks a lot for further developing and maintaining this great software!
My issue is that I upgraded to zotero 5 a couple of weeks ago and my system became quite slower. I checked it up and it seems that zotero is writing to the HD a lot, causing high iowait (between 30 and 60% when zotero is completely idle and I am working on other applications). The iowait load stops when I quit zotero.
I am on a ubuntu 16.4 - 64bits. (Note: the heavy iowait is not due to pdf indexing since I have it disabled (0 pages per file)).
Any ideas how to solve that?

bwiernikCan you submit a Debug Log ID ( in the Help menu ) for one of these slowdown periods?
