Zotero Connector performance issues with Firefox 55

edited August 17, 2017
I'm observing fairly significant performance issues on page load when Zotero connector is enabled since updating Firefox. This seems to happen on every page load, and gets worse the longer the session lasts.

Seems to be related to these errors in the log:

[JavaScript Error: "Script injection timed out" {file: "moz-extension://d27290e3-044f-4b96-99e6-733db0d17acd/background.js" line: 263}]

Report ID: 1488421733

Seems like more or less every time I load a page I get one of those lines

Firefox: 55.0.1 (64-bit)
OS: Ubuntu 17.04
Zotero Connector: 5.0.17
Zotero isn't running while I observed this, but version 5.0.11 is installed.
  • Upgrade to 55.0.2 and see if this still happens. Mozilla fixed a performance regression in Firefox 55 that was triggered by the Zotero Connector. (We need to fix some issues on our end, but they shouldn't cause this sort of slow-down.)
  • Ah, did not realize there was a 55.0.2 build available when I posted this.

Since this isn't overly critical for me right now, I'll disable the extension for a day or two while I wait for that to hit the Ubuntu repositories, and I'll report back if the problem persists then.
  • So, as expected, Firefox 55.0.2 seems to have fixed the performance issues.

I'm still seeing a bunch of errors in the logs, but it sounds like you're on that already.
