[macOS] 5.07 - WebDAV gone?

Hello,

since I just upgraded to 5.07 (prior 4.something), I don't have the option to set up WebDAV anymore. Just as if it was removed by the developers! All I am able to set up under the "sync" preferences is Data Syncing via Zotero-Account. That's all there is for me under this tab!

Couldn't find any information if this was intentional, or a known issue. So hopefully I can find some help here.

Thanks!
  • You have to sign in with a Zotero account to use WebDAV syncing as your metadata is still synced on zotero.org, only files and attachments are stored on a WebDAV server
  • Thanks for the reply!

If I understand correctly, previous versions allowed pusers to chose, wheter they wanted metadata synced at all, but still sync files and attachements.

If that's the case (I am fairly new to Zotero), then I find it sort of silly to now being forced to sign in. I don't care about syncing metadata and only want to sync my files via WebDAV. I should have the option to do so.

No, this hasn't changed — you've always needed to sync data with the Zotero servers to use file sync. The dialog is just presented a bit differently in 5.0 to clarify that there's no point in setting file sync options until you've set up data syncing.
  • Also, syncing files without metadata doesn't really make any sense, as the files are attached to the metadata items—you need to have the metadata for the Zotero programs on your different machines to know where to put the files.
