Syncing Issues

Hi there

Need urgent help

Record ID: 1028770438

Myself and three other people are using the same user logon, and now our desktop versions are all different, we trying to sync and its not reflecting the same library.

Any advise please

Also, what is your reason for having three users sharing the same account?
  • I have sync and still don't see what my colleague saw earlier today.
We shared the same user account because of permissions issues.

Now that i have sync she is sees my library but she has made changes to the folders e.g. renamed them and deleted tags and now it's all gone (all those changes she made has reverted back to the old layout that i had) - it's back to my version basically

    This is confusing...help please
  • What versions of Zotero are each of you running?

And again, we really do need you to follow the instructions I linked to exactly and tell us exactly what you did and what you are seeing. Let’s start with your client. When you make a change and sync, does it show up in the online library on Zotero.org?

Also, what exactly do you mean by “permissions reasons”? There is often a better way to do things than sharing one account. If I understand what you are trying to do, I can give you better advice.
  • Hi there

So we had a library on our desktop version that we used to collaborate in. We each one made changes e.g. renaming the folders and deleting tags, however my colleague happen to be at my desk and realized that my "library version" is not sync.

I sync it hoping it will be like hers with her all her new changes it changed her library to the old version that i had. No both our libraries are back to the old versions.

I have even updated the new Zotero version but its still the same. I had some conflict resolution issues too

The reason we share accounts its because, we do not want people to create tags so we do it for them and it's better control that way. The permissions per individual is difficult to get around.

Hope this clears what i tried to say

Start by upgrading all the computers to Zotero 5.0, which should better handle simultaneous tag changes. (You'll need all the computers to be on 5.0 to get the benefits of the new version.)
  • Thank you will do.
