Word 2016 plugin -- group libraries not updating

I am using Zotero standalone version 4.0.29.17 and Word 2016. I have installed the plugin from Tools > Preferences > Cite. I have recently synced zotero.

When I try to insert a citation using the Word plug in, it is not referencing the current Zotero set up. It doesn't see new (but not that new - we are talking days or weeks old changes) group libraries or citations.

For example, it still thinks that a group library call Physical Processes Group exists. It doesn't. It does not know that a group library called Calcasieu Ship Channel now exists.

I have reinstalled the Word plugin. I have deleted the Zotero plugin from the Word startup folder and reinstalled.

It is still referencing the old Zotero set up.

Were you previously using Zotero in Firefox pointing to a different Zotero data directory (not the default), and do you still have that installed and running? If so, install the Zotero Connector for Firefox from the download page (and consider backing up and deleting that other data directory to avoid wasting space and confusion in the future).
  • I had installed the Zotero for firefox after the standalone version, but you are correct; they were pointing to different directories. I synced the firefox zotero and now the problem is solved -- for the moment anyway.

I will do as you suggest for the Zotero Connector, but this seems like an odd thing to me because I installed the plugin from the Standalone version.

Do I need to install Zotero 5.0 for the connector to work?

The plugins are identical — it's likely just a question of which program you had open first. (But now that you have the connector, you can uninstall the integration plugin from Firefox now if you haven't yet, since it won't do anything anymore.)
