Word 08 on Mac: Zotero not showing up in Script menu

HI, I've installed the latest version of Zotero in latest version of FF (works great) but now want to get the Word integration working. I downloaded the latest Zotero Microsoft Word Integration.mpkg but after running that, nothing shows up in the .scpt menu pulldown, and there appears to be no .scpt file associated with Zotero on my machine (iMac/Latest Leopard), and inside the .mpkg downloaded there are no scripts either! So wondering what to do now? thx!!!!

Check the contents of the "/Users/<username>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Word Script Menu Items/Zotero" folder, if it exists.

Also, are you using an admin account? Does the installer say that it has completed successfully?
  • Hi Dan, thx for ur quik reply. Here is the rub: I use an alias there: "/Users/<username>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/" that points to an external portable drive that I drag from machine to machine so I have always have my Entourage with me at all times. This has probally confused the installer, as the installer says it completes, but a Zotero folder is never written. If I just had the scripts I could put them on the external drive in /Documents/Microsoft User Data/Word Script Menu Items/Zotero and perhaps all would be fine. But I examined the download and did not see any .scpts in the package contents. Hmmm.....
  • Can you temporarily delete the alias, add back an actual folder, run the installer, copy the files to the external drive, and recreate the alias?
  • yes that did the trick, thx for the tip! Zotero with word integration is just awesome!!!
  • I do not have a "/Users/<username>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Word Script Menu Items/Zotero" folder, even though I have downloaded MacWord Integration 3 0a6 and the Python extension 2.6.2 and so in Word 2008 the word script menu items does not have zotero. How do I get the permission to install MacWord Integration in Word Script menu items?
  • When I click on the Add-Ons, MacWord integration preferences, and then want to reinstall Word components, I get a message that tells me that permission is denied. How do I get permission to add it?
  • What's the exact message?

Is this your own machine, or an institutional machine?
  • For 3.0a6
"Zotero Macword Integration could not be installed because an error occurred.
mkdir:/Users/RK/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Word Script Menu Items//Zotero/: Permission denied"
And I am on my own computer (a Mac)
  • You should certainly have access to that directory. You can try running Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.
  • Still didn't work. Any other ideas?

Does the Zotero directory referenced above exist? If so, delete it, and try the Reinstall Word Components step.
