How to interface to ORCID

Hi, having just entered zotero, I wondered whether there is a zotero Interface to ORCID.
Best regards Herbert
  • I am not sure, I understand your question correctly... You can export from Zotero to the BibTeX format, which then can be imported into your ORCID profile. Moreover, you can save references from any ORCID profile to Zotero with the save button.
  • Thanks for the pointer. As far as I know, Orcid can import automatically from some other systems that provide references if authorized by the user. So I just wondered, if that is possible for zotero data as well. Of course, bibtex import can be done manually there, but is time consuming.
  • The automated integration of ORCID is with DataCite and CrossRef, which is a different story (as they register pieces of scholarship together with ORCIDs and then send ORCID that information); given that most relevant publications today have a DOI, I'd just go with those.

What Zotero should probably work on is to store ORCIDs from imported articles, but that's not trivial in terms of getting the organization right, so not sure how quickly that'll happen.
  • Agree with @adamsmith. Moreover, alternative authentication with ORCID would be on my wish list for Zotero.

To login with the ORCID ID would be cool. Also it would be an interesting feature to have a possibility to enter the ORCID ID in the zotero profile such that the corresponding URL is displayed for visitors of the zotero homepage for easy access.
BTW, also sciencedirect data can be imported automatically into ORCID.
  • I would like also see ORCID ID as a next field for each author. Transcription of same names can be very individual and for Zotero (if I am not wrong) Ramon is not the same as Ramón. I think it should really help in searching and also in citation of non English documents.
  • Would be great to be able to "follow" an author through their ORCID on Zotero and have all of their new publications automatically added to my reference collection.
  • Zotero supports RSS/Atom feed subscriptions now. I don't think ORCID offers that (though I haven't checked) but I'd argue that that would be the way to do this.
  • @mfenner implemented a ORCID RSS feed service, which then moved to https://github.com/ORCID-EU-Labs/orcid-feed , but the public website seems to be down at the moment.
