Failure to sync

I have installed both the firefox browser version of Zotero and the desktop version for Linux. The firefox version does not seem to be automatically syncing with the group library I am part of. I have attempted to manually sync the desktop version using the sync button. However, each time I receive an error message and my library content does not update. How can I sync properly with the group library?

I would recommend updating to Zotero 5.0, now available, and installing the Zotero Connector for Firefox. If you're still having trouble after that we can debug it further.

I've already installed both. I can push the sync button in Zotero 5.0, but I get an error message everytime. Each failed attempt also shuts down my browser--not sure why.

We need a Report ID from 5.0, then, and the error message you're receiving.

What do you mean by that, exactly? Syncing in Zotero shouldn't have anything to do with your browser…

For whatever reason, my browser seems to crash when I try to sync. But the main issue is my inability to sync with the group library that I am part of.

That's still Zotero 4.0… Which also suggests you may still be running Zotero for Firefox rather than the Zotero Connector for Firefox.

Okay, so what would be the next logical step? I'm very new Zotero and on a new machine as well. I'm working with Linux.

Install Zotero 5.0 and the Zotero Connector for Firefox from the download page.

I've tried both several times. I just downloaded again the tar ball for Linux, Zotero 5.0. Should I extract its contents?

Also, I do have the firefox connector installed. I can see the "Z" in the top right of a new tab. And yet I can't actually click on it.

Now it appears to be syncing in my desktop version, and I can see all the folders in my group library. But nothing happens when I click on any of the folders--I can't see anything.

wait until the sync finishes. I think Zotero 5.0 synces the collections before everything else and -- different from 4.0 -- incrementally shows items that have synced.

Okay, now when I can click on folders. But when I try to open a pdf, I get the message "the attached file cannot be found.
