cannot sync/items not visible online (report ID 711538948)

When trying to sync I get the error message: API version not specified.
When logging in on the website no items are shown in my libraries. Storage however shows that there are many items. I have been using this account for years without any problems. Maybe the database is corrupted?
  • You definitely have items in your library online. What exactly do you see?
  • In general, for both problems, I'd start by disabling your other Firefox extensions and seeing if that makes a difference.
  • Here is a screenshot of what I see or don't see:

I also checked it from my home PC last night and there everything looks fine. Can this somehow be associated with my companies firewall? They are more than very strict...

So I'm able to get the same result if I block all the scripts on the page of type 'text/x-jquery-tmpl' which are just templates. It's possible your company is removing these scripts if they're examining all pages that go through the network.

You can check if this is a possibility by checking the site certificate https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/site_certificate_info to see if they're intercepting your traffic.
  • I guess they are as they are stated to have verified the certificate. But I don't know if they intercept the type of scripts you specify.

Do you think that this behavior will also affect the sync process (my main issue)?
  • In general yes, networks intercepting your traffic will cause problems but there are workarounds (https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/ssl_certificate_error). However I don't think the error in your first post is typical for this situation, and it appears your institution may actually be modifying relatively normal traffic instead of just scanning it so all bets may be off. If everything is working normally from outside the network I'd say you should consult your IT people.
