[Zotero 5 beta] Conflict resolution and syncing

edited June 14, 2017
I have a quite large Zotero database with multiple (both individual and group) libraries. When I sync, I get 'Conflict resolution' warnings like this one - https://www.screencast.com/t/6PWdb9j8Dlk. This is truly a great functionality, but the box that shows up doesn't indicate which of my various groups this series of conflicts applies to. Is there are way to display the name of the actual library? That would really help in deciding which version to choose...

Do you see actual differences between the two sides? If not, and you haven't resolved the conflicts yet, we can look into whether it's possible to avoid them altogether. We'd need a Debug ID for the sync attempt.

This is not a syncing problem Dan. My libraries synced fine; and Zotero also gave me the possibility to check the different versions and select one. My point merely is that it would be nice - since the interface presents the comparisons by library (giving us a chance to make a choice for all sync conflicts at once) - if we would see which library is being processed. The dialogue box now only shows the items themselves; and not the libraries they're in. If it did the latter too, I would then see, for instance, whether I'm dealing with a library from an old project that I haven't made changes to in a long time and so can click on 'select remote' for all items; or a more recent one - where I have to be more careful. Does that make sense?
  • This does absolutely make sense as a feature request, but Dan's question is still relevant: in your example, the items seem like they're actually the same.
If that's the case, you shouldn't get a sync conflict in the first place and it'd be nice to troubleshoot that (that number of sync conflicts should typically be unlikely -- another indication that something might not be working as intended).
  • Ha! You are right. My bad.
Yes, most of them were identical. Here's another one I just got - https://www.screencast.com/t/u5dx7wMNM. Here you go: error # 5950326
  • [BTW - I also made another feature request in the longer Zotero 5 beta thread. Can I just leave it there, or should I create a separate one?]
  • We'll want a debug ID for the sync attempt, up to the first such conflict resolution. Different from an error report ID:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_for_firefox_or_zotero_standalone
If the output is too large to submit, put in a text file, save, zip, and send to support@z...ero.org

Fine to leave your feature request in the 5.0 thread (though for other ones, do start a new thread). Dan will decide whether to leave it there or split it into a new thread.
