Behaviour of the main search bar

I'm not sure how or where to ask these questions and I'm aware from forums that at least some of the functionality I'm looking for probably doesn't currently exist.

I find the results of the search function to be distracting. 90% of the time I perform a search to find a list of articles for a particular author. The grayed out results generally relate to instances that other articles reference the author for whom I am searching. Although I may use this type of functionality useful at some point it will be rare and probably only in a narcissistic manner.

I saved an advanced search that searches only for an author and returns the results that interest me, only the occurrences in my database where the name is listed as an author. However, the extra steps and clicks involved in using this search have begun to amplify as an annoyance. I use this search many times a day when I'm writing and I'm looking for options to simplify the process.

Finally, here are my questions:

1. In future Zotero versions is it possible to include user preferences that control the behaviour of the search bar? Or, have I missed this in version 1.5?

2. An alternative would be a way of adding commonly used used saved searches to Zotero's menu bar. Is there anyway to customise the menu bar in this fashion?

Thank you for any assistance that can be offered on this matter.

Regards,
Chris

  • Thank you Dan. I hadn't found those tickets when I was doing my searches. All of those discussions cover my issues nicely.
