Frequent Zotero standalone 4.0.29 crashes on startup (Error 1040282886)

Not sure if this recurring issue is specific to me, but for the past couple of months, my Zotero standalone 4.0.29 on Mac 10.12.5, with 5,400 entries, frequently crashes on startup in this way:
- I open the app, type a word or phrase into the search box, and press enter
- Error message appears: "An error has occurred. Please restart Zotero"

Usually this problem resolves itself when I restart Zotero, but today it happened twice in a row, so am wondering if there's a fix I should be trying. Thanks Zotero team for all of your work on this wonderful tool, and the upcoming version. -- Jack
  • Zotero devs aren't really going to troubleshoot 4.0.29 crashes since there aren't going to be any new versions -- I'd recommend just switching to the 5.0 beta version (which should be a release version very soon). If the crashes continue, we'd then troubleshoot there.
