[Zotero 5.0] AMS translators don't work at all

Starting today, clicking on the connector icon while in a Mathscinet entry does nothing. Nothing is imported and no status message appears. Curiously, if the standalone is closed the typical message to open it or import to zotero.org doesn't show up either. The Transactions of the AMS journal exhibits the same behavior, so I suspect it's common to all AMS related sites. I've tried to update and reset the translators in the Firefox connector settings to no avail. The connector version is 4.999.19 and the standalone 5.0-beta.194+b60fdac. Firefox 53 in Fedora 25.

Try disabling all other add-ons?

This is strange and embarrasing. It's working again. I see a difference. When in the first page, if I right click on the connector icon I see an item "Save to zotero (AMS MathSciNet)" which wasn't there when it wasn't working. In the second case I now see three new "Save to zotero (---)" where --- is "AMS Journals", "Embedded metadata" or "DOI".

I got nothing -- sounds like translators weren't loading into the connector, but I can't tell you why. Let's assume it was a one-time glitch. If it does re-occur, do check which translators are available (i.e. right-click) and mention that with your error report.

It keeps happening. I can't see if there's a pattern, but I heavily use AMS sites so if the problem persists I may come back with something. The two always visible translators are Web page with/without Snapshot, but they don't import anything when clicking.

a debug for reloading the page would help in those cases (provided that reload doesn't fix it)

@fmuro this does not seem to include a refresh. You should enable debug logging and refresh the page. If the page fails to load properly - send in the debug log, otherwise clear the output and do the debug-refresh dance again.

Okay, this debug log is still surprisingly empty. Are you on-campus (no need for credentials/proxy for ams.org)? Could you provide a debug log for a successful load too?

No, I'm at home. I'm paired to my institution through the remote access functionality, which so far has been working well (giving no problems with zotero): http://www.ams.org/pairing/pair_my_device.html

How did I manage to get it? Easy, clicking on my message's link. Surprisingly I find no problems when I access the page through a link, rather than going to the home page and performing a search in the database.

@fmuro hmm, so I've been unsuccessfully trying to reproduce this. I also took a better look at your successful debug log, but that seems to contain an item save, not refresh/navigation. What we want captured in a debug log is a successful/failed load of the website. I.e. either entering the URL of the journal article, or clicking on a link to that article and Zotero icon properly turning into a white article sheet, or remaining a gray page.

Once again, if you could produce a Debug ID for both successful and failed page load, that would be great.

@fmuro We've pushed a version of the connector for firefox that logs a few more things. Could you produce another couple of Debug IDs with the updated version when you have a chance?

Just updated to Zotero Connector 4.999.20 and closed/reopen firefox in case it's necessary. I'm using the same links as above, but I copy them below anyway.

Ok, this is getting me nowhere and I'm out of ideas. We'll be releasing the 5.0 connector for Chrome shortly, which allows another way to log errors. I'll ping this thread, once that's out with further instructions. Thanks for the help so far!

Thank you for helping me! I was guessing, since I noticed the scarce number of lines in the report. So you have more hope with Chrome? Will it be the same with Chromium? I'm a little bit scared of installing proprietary software (not that I like Chromium very much either, but I can put up with it until this is solved in Firefox).

I believe Chromium can install extensions from Chrome extension store, right? It would be good if you could use Chromium for that. We'll be unifying the code across Firefox and Chrome extensions with the upcoming connector rollout for Chrome. If MathSciNet fails in the same way in Chromium as it does in Firefox we'll hopefully be able to collect more error information.

Yes, Chrome extensions work equally well in Chromium. Please, bump this when the new Chrome/ium connector is released and I'll install it for further debug.
