Wrong translator?

Hello,

I am trying to save a book ref from a library database and when I hover my cursor over the Zotero icon on my toolbar, it is written "web site" in parentheses. I thus cannot save the book ref, but the web site, which is useless.

The website is that of the sudoc.abes.fr

Here is the URL:

http://www.sudoc.abes.fr//DB=2.1/SET=1/TTL=1/CMD?ACT=SRCHA&IKT=1016&SRT=YOP&TRM=reinke+herder+gedichte

This happens with this website, but also other major library databases. The only website I can get book refs out of is Amazon and Google books.

Thank you in advance!

C. G.
  • The gray web page icon just means it's not using a translator at all, not that it's using the wrong translator. See Troubleshooting Translator Issues. That page shows the book icon for me.
  • Thank you for your comment and explanation dstillman. I had already looked at Troubleshooting Translator Issues, but the answer I found to my problem was to write on the forum, maybe I don't know where to look exactly on that page to solve my problem. (When I go on that page, I also only have the web site icon. Would you know why I do not have any translator at all? I did the update, I use Chrome...)
  • CGiarardin is true. Zotero does not save anything from URL
    http://www.sudoc.abes.fr//DB=2.1/SET=1/TTL=1/CMD?ACT=SRCHA&IKT=1016&SRT=YOP&TRM=reinke+herder+gedichte (Zotero icon is grey). But if you go to link on this page and open http://www.sudoc.fr/092317634 (I think it was done by Dan) then the Zotero can correctly save record as book (Zotero icon is "book" and selected translator is Library catalog (PICA))
  • Thank you for your comment LiborA. Unfortunately, I opened the link you sent ( http://www.sudoc.fr/092317634 ) and the Zotero icon is grey for me, no PICA translator suggested. I have an old Mac (version 10.7.5), maybe that would explain?
  • Although it was working until very recently...

    No, I'm saying it does, for me.

    @CGirardin:
    maybe I don't know where to look exactly on that page to solve my problem
    You have to follow all the steps. One of those, and the most likely in your case, is resetting translators. Did you do that (and all the others)?
  • But before doing anything else, you should also provide a Report ID.

    No, I'm saying it does, for me.
    Interesting, if I click on the link in Dan's post, I see "book" icon of the translator, but if I've clicked on the link in CGirardine's post I've seen a grey icon of the translator I've tested it three times. From the fourth attempt, I see book icon.
  • It's the same URL.
  • Yes, that's the same URL. I do not understand it.
  • Thank you dstillman and LiborA. Here is the Report ID: Report ID:2050986370.

    I just restored the translators and tried to go on any library database (including the sudoc we tried earlier) and no result, no book icon, only grey.

    I've been through the steps suggested by this page (https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues).
    Step 1: does not apply;
    Step 2: done;
    Step 3: does not apply;
    Step 4: done;
    Step 5: done;
    Step 6: done;
    Step 7: does not apply;
    Step 8: does not apply;
    Step 9: done
    Step 10: does not apply;
    Step 11: here is more info:

    Zotero version: 4.0.29.15

    Thanks again!
  • Sorry, I forgot to mention my Google Chrome version: 49.0.2623.112 (64-bit)
  • Ah, this is Chrome. OK, in Chrome I get the book icon only intermittently. We'll take a look.
  • It appears to be a chrome bug. We'll try to get them to fix it and if there's no movement we'll look for a workaround. Sorry about that. Issue created.

    In the meantime you can use the Firefox Connector, which works properly for this page, but you will obviously need to get Firefox.
  • (You can also just refresh the page until it loads properly in Chrome, as the bug seems to be intermittent. Once again, sorry for not having a better solution right now.)
  • Thank you for your advice. I will try Firefox in the meantime. Can you just tell me how will I be able to know when it is fixed? (I can try regularly on Chrome until it works I guess?)

  • We'll comment on the forum post once there's a solution, so you'll receive an email (although check your Notification Settings on the left sidebar here, to make sure they're enabled).
  • Thank you!
