OO Citations Into Tables Breaks Zotero

edited May 1, 2017
Whenever I try to add citations to table cells Zotero inserts the first entry just fine. However, all the Zotero toolbar buttons become unresponsive afterwards, when I attempt to restart Zotero and add another citation it freezes, and in anycase I'm not able to add bibliography
I was wondering if there's someone else with the same issue and wither it has solution
  • While it shouldn't freeze, I'm pretty sure Ooo (and LibreOffice, which we recommend you use), doesn't handle multiple reference marks in a single table gracefully, so there isn't much we can do on the larger issue of multiple citations in a table, I'm afraid.
  • In my experience citations in tables get messy fast with Word or LibreOffice. This problem isn't limited to Zotero but also exists with students who use EndNote.

I deal with this by, when writing with Zotero field codes active, I do not place _any_ citation within any table element but place them as individual citations below where the table was inserted. Then after removing field codes and saving, I edit the table elements and cells by inserting superscripted characters for the listed citation below the table and then delete the citation list. This works for numbered styles. The same practice will work for author date styles. It becomes tedious for large tables and for tables that exceed one-page in length. Otherwise, for simple tables, the process is quick and easy.
