Reference showing up even with no citation in paper

Hi,

I have been working on a document and i want to get rid of one of the references. I gone through the entire paper and edited/deleted it so this reference is no longer cited anywhere in the paper, but it is still showing up in my bibliography.

I have refreshed the document multiple times, deleted the bibliography and put it back in, closed zotero and re opened it, closed my document and reopened it and it is still showing up.

I even changed the way my references show up so that anytime you cite the author name appears, and still i don't see this referenced being cited anywhere in my paper but it's still in my bibliography.

any help would be awesome! I am hoping i don't have to re do all of my references!

  • How exactly did you delete the citation? Often, when users delete citations with the backspace or delete key, they leave behind parts of the field for that citation by (for example) not deleting a remaining space. You may think you have deleted it, but you have not. Turn on shading for fields in your document from "File > Options > Advanced > Show document content" and see if there are any remnants.

Also, you can toggle viewing (not the same as shading) field codes with ALT+F9 in Word
  • (on most Macs that's Alt+FN+F9)
