Zotero plugin for Firefox causing bizarre redirects on unrelated sites

I have been using Zotero for years now and still use the Firefox plugin method of accessing it. For a while now, I've been getting bizarre redirects using Firefox, on all sorts of sites. For example, right now TripAdvisor is redirecting to https://staticxx.facebook.com/connect/xd_arbiter/r/87XNE1PC38r.js?version=42#

This occurs only when I have the Zotero extension loaded. Disable the Zotero extension, and the weird redirects go away.

I have Zotero 4.0.29.18 on Firefox 53.0 on a Mac running OS 10.12.4.

Any ideas?
  • Try disabling the Proxy redirect feature in the Zotero settings. Does the problem still happen then?
  • Yup, turning off the Proxy redirect solves the problem.

Now I'm mildly concerned about what will happen the next time I'm using Zotero from home and accessing my university's resources, but that's not an immediate problem.
  • Okay, that suggests that at some point a bad proxy for saved. Look through the list of proxies stored in that pane and delete any that are not part of your organization. Then re-enable the feature and try again.
