Automatic generation of a zotero library from pdf's in a folder structure

Dear All,

I am wondering if there exists any way in zotero, or any extension to zotero, that could automatically generate a zotero library from pdf's in an established folder structure? For example, consider the common situation where the pdf literature related a project is contained within a subfolder of a project folder. If there are then multiple projects, as is typically the case, then there would be a variable distribution of pdfs in literature subfolders of many project folders. Furthermore, the projects themselves might be distributed in folders representing different research programs so one has a nested set of pdfs, some of which might be duplicates. It would be great to have a daemon that would monitor a specified folder and its subfolders for the addition of pdfs then build a matchins tree structure (or with tags) within zotero, including fetching bibliograph info for each pdf (which I know is already possible from within zotero). The benefit would be that people get to store their pdf's where their other project related material is yet a research group as a whole would still benefit from unified bibliography management.

If this is not already developed I would sponsor a developer, with demonstrable zotero experience, to generate such an extension to zotero, then release it free to the community. Please contact : ronan.mt.fleming _at_ gmail.com

Regards,

Ronan

  • Definitely not currently possible -- and building watch-folders is quite tricky, so a add-on would likely be possible, but not easy to do.
