Google Chrome, Online, Standalone : Sync & Xpdf

I have downloaded the Standalone, created an online account, and added the google chrome plug-in.

The following are the issues I can't seem to resolve.

1. after entering my account information (Zotero preferences -> general), it does not seem to sync with the online account. (I have a bunch of articles on the standalone that aren't being displayed online)

2. When I go to Zotero Preferences-> Search -> Check for installer, the following message is displayed "An error occurred while attempting to download the Xpdf utilities from zotero.org. Please try again later, or view the documentation for manual installation instructions."

I tried downloading pdftotext-Win32.exe and pdfinfo (following in the footsteps of another Zotero thread) and the Standalone did not recognize it (after renaming the file etc.)

Anyone encounter these issues that can be of assistance?

Thank you
  • For the first point, it seems that you have not syncronized your data.

In the Standalone app go to the upper right corner... there is a green icon to syncronize manually. But before, you should establish your sincronization preferences in the "sync" tab of the preferences (including automatic sync, if you wish).

  • Thank you for your response!

I tried to click the button you referenced, however there is a red exclamation point icon that indicates there was an issue connecting to the server. Also, after clicking the manual synchronization, the online library is still coming up empty.

Any ideas? I've tried uninstalling and redownloading, it doesnt help.

(I have had the sync tab preferences set with automatic syncing the whole time and has not changed anything).
  • Both issues have the same cause, Zotero being unable to connect to its server. Start here:
