pasting from Windows clipboard into a field in a Zotero database

I sometimes enter new records into my Zotero database using the Add Item(s) by Identifier option. My procedure is to open a pdf of a journal article, copy the DOI to the Windows clipboard, open the Add Item(s) by Identifier dialog box in Zotero, which shows a live Paste option when I right-click. When I click Paste, however, nothing appears in the dialog box. Is this a bug, or some incompatibility between Zotero and Windows (I use Windows 7 at my office and Windows 10 at home)? I've tried this without success many times over the past several months. It happens in both Zotero for Firefox and Zotero Standalone.
