[5.0 Beta] URL with file path opens in Zotero window

This discussion was created from comments split from: Zotero 5.0 Beta.
  • Zotero5 bug: when I click on a item with an url pointing to a local files, the file open in a zotero window (not the default program) and the zotero windows doens’t have a maximize button

By local file, I mean a file (a .pdf or a .txt) stored in an external folder (ex: desktop/folder ― not the zotero storage folder or the zutilo folder)

This bug only happen for files files like .pdf or .txt. If I open a file like an .epub, I get a pop up asking me what want to do “You have chosen to open… what should zotero do with this file”.

This problem doesn’t occurs with internal pdf (stored inside zotero folder, imported for instance by dragging/dropping it into zotero, moved with zutilo or added with the “Link to file” feature). When I open these pdf they are not embed into a zotero windows, they open directly in acrobat.

I don’t use the “Link to file” feature but this adds an item in the library so I prefer to use the url.

    I am on Windows7
  • I forgot to add the printscreens for my latest request:

@Vialo It is not a correct URL. You can use "Attach link to File", I think it is a better way. On another hand you are right, I do not know why Zotero try to open some URLs in internal viewer and others in the "default" application.
