[SOLVED] Linux client not booting after changing storage path to cloud directory Google drive

edited February 13, 2017
Hello,

I changed my storage path to my google drive folder and Zotero does not launch after this change in the file path, under preferences menu.

What happened:

I changed the default filepath path of Zotero, from ~/.zotero/zotero/4rmsrhz3.default/zotero/storage to ~/google-drive

The Google drive folder mentioned above is using Google Drive Ocamlfuse program. The installation guide can be found here. https://archive.is/PeU7g

Once I changed the storage path in the preferences. I got a dialogue box saying to restart Zotero and something about needed to move old storage file manually to the new location. I clicked Yes, restart and ran Zotero executable, but the GUI is not visible anymore.

STEPS TAKEN:

I rebooted my PC and ran both the Zotero executable and the shell script, run-zotero.sh

I tried to locate the config file so I can revert the path back manually. Where is it? I searched the documentation, and github sourcecode but all I found was mentioning the GUI client and it's storage path.

Error Messages when I run with verbose flags.

user@user ~ $ Zotero_linux-x86_64/zotero -vvv

Help, I love Zotero.

I can save locally, if this is going to be a problem, but, it would be nice to get it working with cloud storage.
  • You should absolutely not put the Zotero data folder into a sync folder like Google Drive or Dropbox in any case, so I'd just revert this. The storage path is in prefs.js in the Zotero _profile_ folder, which is typically in ~/.zotero on linux
  • @adamsmith That fixed the problem. I won't use a sync folder from now on.

    Thank you for the help!
