Zotero Documents - Chrome

Hello,
I've read through the support documents and I'm still a bit lost. I was using Zotero for Firefox. I recently had to get a new computer and have uploaded Zotero for chrome and found it much easier to use.

The problem is that the material I had saved in Zotero, when I was using Firefox, is now gone. I can't find any of my articles. Any way I can retrieve these? I also saw a way to manually backup your zotero database?

I'm not tech savvy, but need these for school, so step by step instructions are greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Amy
  • First, you need to install Zotero Standalone (there isn't a full Zotero client that lives inside Chrome like there was for Firefox):
    https://www.zotero.org/download/
    Have you done that?

Second, were you using syncing on your old computer? If so, you can just sync your account with Zotero on your new machine and everything will be good to go:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/sync

If not, do you still have access to your old computer?
  • Yes, I have already downloaded the standalone version. I did just log in to sync up. Would it then merge automatically?

Unfortunately I do not have access to the old computer. Does that mean my items are just lost?

    Thank you!
  • If you click on "My Library" at the top of this page, do you see your items or an empty library? If you don't see any items in your library on this site, I'm afraid we may not be able to help you get those back without access to your old harddisk or a back-up thereof.
(Here are instructions on Zotero back-up: https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#backing_up_your_zotero_library )
  • I see my current items but none of the original ones from when I was using firefox. That's such a disappointment. Thank you for your help, though. I will look at the backup instructions.
