Undo in 1 go

I don't know much about how Zotero in MS Word works but I think it runs a macro with several steps each time a citation is added/edited. When you want to undo something, you need to go back several steps and it can be quite frustrating.

I found something online about undoing all of the steps in a macro at once: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/microsoft.public.word.word97vba/UGSD7Xq6t-8/uz1_gacg8cUJ

I'm not sure if it actually can be implemented in Zotero's macros but I'm really hoping it can. Could this possibly be looked into for future releases?
  • This has been requested before. We generally want to implement it and I've created an issue but there is no timeline at the moment.
  • This has now been implemented for Windows Word 2010 and later and will be released in an upcoming version of the plugin:
    https://github.com/zotero/zotero-word-for-windows-integration/commit/f6a150eca0a7946fa907ac482b12d4e52a2bf687
  • Does this extend to all actions? (insert citation, edit citation, insert bibliography, edit bibliography, refresh, change citation style, etc.)
  • @bwiernik No release date for now, but in some not-too-distant future for Zotero 5.0

@Rintze yup. Will also be available for LibreOffice. Word for Mac users will have to wait as there is some friction on Microsoft's side.
  • I tried the most recent release of Zotero along with the beta-release and undo in 1 go does not work in either of these versions for Microsoft Word from Office 365. Has this not been implemented for Office 365? If not, is there any plan to implement it in the future?

I switched to Zotero from Mendeley because the library in zotero is a lot easier to maintain but I'm facing a lot of issues with word integration :(.

    Thanks for looking into this!

This is a rather old thread. What actions are you wanting to undo? To a great extent the actions that can be undone depend on the operating system and word processor version -- certainly for the levels of undo. Are you also asking about "track changes"? What Zotero can currently undo is dependent upon the other software.

    I find ctl-Z Windows / cmd-Z Mac useful.

I was searching to see if anyone else had the same issue as I did and this is the thread I came across.

I have tried to undo insert citation, insert bibliography and change citation style (using either Ctrl-Z or the undo button on top). In each case I needed to undo a large number of steps since each change is marked as a series of VBA steps. Since Word allows a limited number of undos this meant that I often couldn't undo anything I did prior to the Zotero edit.

I am using Microsoft Office 365 on Windows 10, currently with the beta version of Zotero. .I have also tried the latest stable version (5.0.72). Neither worked for me.

I don't have track changes on.

I don't know if it's relevant but I also had to do a manual installation of the Word extension. I didn't see the Zotero tab on Word so I copy pasted the .dotm file as described in https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation

    Thanks again!
