Geologic map citation

Hi there!

I am trying to generate a reference for a geologic map following this format (U.S. Geological Survey):

Thompson, R.A., and Lipman, P.W., 1994a, Geologic map of the San Antonio Mountain quadrangle, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico: U.S. Geological Survey geologic quadrangle map GQ-1750, 1:24,000 scale.

I have been going through this 2009 thread:

https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/8793/geological-society-of-america-journals/p1

From the thread, I assume that I should input "1:24,000 scale" into the Extra field under Info but when I go to generate the bibliography citation, the "1:24,000 scale" does not appear. I tried using both the U.S. Geological Survey style and The Geological Society of America style.

I feel like I might be missing something simple to make this work. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

edit: Have you tried just putting it into scale?
In general that should work, though I'm not sure in which styles that's currently implemented (though the USGS I'd be pretty optimistic it is)
In general, check the date for threads when you're following advice. That one is 7 years old, so anything in there is completely outdated.
  • actually, for those styles, Extra should still work, but the item type will need to be "Map"
  • Thanks for your quick response! Changing it to a Map type totally worked. I couldn't get the "Scale" function to work under either style but both styles did recognize it when I listed it under "Extra." Thanks again!

(I'm honestly not happy with this, since we do have support for scale in both Zotero and CSL now, so I might try to change this. I'll try to remember to post here, but if you find it to stop working mysteriously, put the value in the Scale field instead)
  • Okay, cool. Will I need to re-download the styles or update Zotero to see the change?
  • no, styles update automatically.
