Zotero connector adapted from Chrome version compatible with Firefox e10s

edited December 8, 2016
Hi there,

I used the Chrome version zotero connector and converted it to a firefox version that is compatible with e10s feature. The extention has been signed, but I haven't published it in AMO. You can download and install the addon on your own firefox. I tested it with firefox developer version of 52.a0.

Cheers,

Thanks to Adamsmith, the link shows how to build firefox version.

I didn't know it before, but this is a really useful link.

Hope Zotero can publish its official connector that is compatible with e10s as soon as possible.

Cheers,
  • Dan will have to say how they feel about this, but I don't consider this good style.
The Firefox connector is moving forward -- in fact there are build instructions for it on the connector repository -- https://github.com/zotero/zotero-connectors -- it just hasn't been signed and released by Zotero (but everyone with a developer edition of Firefox can build and use it in 5mins).
At a minimum, inquiring about this before just putting it up would have been considerate.

    Hi Adamsmith,

I tried searching a lot but couldn't find a built one for firefox e10s version, so I decided to make one for myself. To install the extension on the firefox, the extension has to be signed. But I carefully choose not to publish in AMO because I wish Zotero will publish the official version someday. This extension is just for fun and for personal use. I notice there are several posts asking for the e10s version zotero connector. So I thought it might be helpful to share the extension just inside the community.

Anyway, I can remove the link without any hesitation.

    Cheers,
  • Thanks.
@Dan%20Stillman -- since there clearly is demand, any reason you couldn't publish the signed FF connector as a beta (or alpha or whatevery you want to call it)?
  • We're finishing up some work on the connector (for better parity with the full Firefox version), and we'll be releasing a beta version on a separate upgrade track, hopefully in the next week. Sometime in the next couple months, we'll move all existing extension users over to the WebExtension. (Zotero 5.0 will still be released initially as a full Firefox extension.)

any news on this? I use the zotxt zotero extension so don't want to upgrade to zotero 5 until I have some time to investigate compatibility; but I also use firefox DE and would like to be able to use zotero with it. If there's a sanctioned solution to that setup I'd love to have some instructions. Thanks!
  • In case you missed it, the beta e10s-compatible extension is available here:

    (5.0 isn't required.)
